You call out my name when overjoyed or in crisis,
Whisper it when lamenting in despair or in anguish
You often call on me as a last result, when all else fails
And I wonder if you really know me
When asked who his He to you?
You stutter, feeling surprised and cornered; unable to answer the question?
With a sigh, you describe me based on what you have been told, regurgitating 2nd hand information in a 1st hand manner. Your sheepish mannerism, a signal to no longer be probed as you try to describe him from the lenses of others
Isn’t it a wonder, we feel cornered and embarrassed when asked who He is to us.
Like a naughty/ guilty child caught in action, our response highlights our unwillingness to admit we do not know him. A coyness coming from knowing we are unable to keep up the pretence.
Knowing this weighed heavily on me, as I am perpetuating rumours, and I made judgement based on hearsay. He is often described as the Creator, Omnipotent, Merciful, Loving, the Redeemer. He is also One but exist in three persons etc.
Yes, that is who He is, yet these are just words, head knowledge that will enable me to pass a test, but I realised I wanted to be able to describe him for myself not on hearsay.
With my interest peaked I begin to study him, spending time daily reading him, observing, hearing, and encountering him. Now I can boldly say He is all the above. To me He is
My way-maker, the God of the impossible possible
He is Christ, the faithful promise keeper, a stronger tower, and provider
He is the I Am that I Am, my healer, and refuge.
Merciful, kind and loving, He is the Rock of Ages, the one that Changeth not
At times He is indescribable, and cannot be quantified, qualified, or equated too. Yes, these are words based on encounters and not just head knowledge. Who is He to you?
