Gideon is a GraceStation foundation scholarship recipient pursuing a 6-year Medical Laboratory Science program at the University for Development Studies- Tamale Campus. He aspires to be an immunologist and a microbiologist who researches into new ways disease producing organisms could be beneficial as they enter our bodies.
Achieving this dream, however, seemed bleak at one point. Gideon was raised in a broken home where his single mother is the sole breadwinner of the family by hawking sachet water and drinks in a suburb in Kumasi. Throughout his early life, his education has been financed from the meagre profits his mother makes and the occasional benevolence of family friends. Funding his tertiary education, however, was tougher because there wasn’t enough to cover his tuition and the necessary learning materials, he needed to facilitate his learning, until a friend introduced the GraceStation foundation scholarship scheme to him.
“The scholarship scheme has supported me for two consecutive years. Not only did I benefit from fully funded tuition, the scheme again, provided mentorship programs, capacity building training and knowledge enhancement programs which ultimately develop a student’s soft skills.
I participated fully in all virtual training programs, benefited from a Guidance session facilitated by a mentor which boosted my confidence and taught me to practice effective time management, which I highly lacked prior to the sessions.
The educational support brought a huge relief to my mother financially as she was able to now focus on paying for her healthcare needs.
Thanks to the scholarship scheme, I am now able to focus on my studies as well and build myself through extracurricular activities. I am so grateful to GraceStation Foundation.”
As has been instilled in him by the foundation to ‘Give for Change”, Gideon is using knowledge gained from his studies to rightly inform people on standard health practices and accurate medical information. He occasionally organizes health talk sessions for his Adventist Campus Fellowship members, and he has led a team of experienced nurses to start a three (3) stage Hepatitis B vaccination. A total of twenty-eight (28) individuals were vaccinated.
Gideon is currently in Level 500 and is looking forward to making a significant impact in society by giving back.
