Jennifer, a high school graduate, was enrolled in a fashion apprenticeship in April 2022 through the GSf Vocational Skill Learning Scheme. This is a program that seeks to enroll high school graduates that prefer to learn a skill as against, furthering their education.

This was a good step for Jennifer, however, she struggled financially with the cost of transportation and feeding during her apprenticeship training. She requested support to cater for this, however, upon assessment, the foundation believed it would be more sustainable to set her up with a business where she could earn her keep.

The foundation set Jennifer up with the necessary resources to start a tea business where she would sell tea and egg sandwiches at night. The foundation again gave her guidance on managing the business effectively.

Fifteen (15) months later, Jennifer is still enrolled in her apprenticeship and is doing very well. She has also been able to save a substantial amount which she intends on using to purchase a sewing machine for herself to better aid her newly acquired skills.

She has also expanded her business to include the selling of cooked rice and other beverages such as oatmeal, etc. She has again been able to support her mother with enough capital to start an onion business which she previously struggled to do due the lack of funds.

GraceStation foundation’s vocational trainee support package has been a life changer for Jennifer and her entire family.
