Doreen is a brilliant young lady with aspirations of becoming a top corporate executive, with a key interest in Mathematics and Business Administration.

Doreen and her family were recruited as GraceStation foundation beneficiaries in 2016 and benefited from the foundation’s strands that included receiving bi-monthly food donations, a valid NHIS card and soft skills empowerment.

After high school, she applied to study Mathematics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and gained admission. The joyous news, however, was not received with enthusiasm when she informed her parents. As the first of three children, Doreen was told the resources available were not sufficient for her to further her education and that doing so would mean depriving her other siblings of basic education and other essentials.

She, however, had a goal and was determined to achieve that without heeding any inhibitions and embarked on a quest to source support to enable her to pursue her tertiary education in BSc Mathematics that year. She applied to the GraceStation foundation Scholarship program and after going through the various review processes, she was offered a full-time scholarship that covered her tuition, hostel fees, support allowance, and offered her valuables like mentorship and developmental programs, as part of the benefits attached to her scholarship.

Doreen was keen to keep this scholarship offered and so she maintained her commitment to her academics once enrolled in school. This led to the foundation renewing her offer and supporting her through her four-year study at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

At the end of her first degree, she had accumulated so many wisdom nuggets from GraceStation’s mentorship sessions and that drove her to apply for a MasterCard Scholarship to advance her studies in Mathematical Sciences. She gained admission in 2020 to the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences to pursue MSc in Mathematical Science.

Doreen now has a Master’s degree in Mathematical Science and is giving back to society by teaching BECE candidates who have difficulty with Mathematics. Additionally, she has been selected as one of the twenty graduates from her year group to undertake a Business Management program, which would merit them an internship with top firms in Ghana and possibly, permanent employment.

GraceStation foundation could not be prouder of Doreen for the major feats she has achieved in her education and just like Doreen, we ultimately aim at raising children to become impactful members of society regardless of their current situation.
