Here at GraceStation Foundation, we don't just quench hunger pangs, we ignite hope. Witnessing the resilience of our beneficiaries is what fuels our passion, and this story is a testament to that very spirit. This is a story of transformation, resilience, and the boundless possibilities that arise when people are given the tools to forge their own paths to success through sustainable livelihood projects.
Empowering Change: The Beginning
GraceStation Foundation identified 15 deserving beneficiaries for a groundbreaking sustainable livelihood support initiative focusing on goat rearing and snail farming. These individuals, drawn from two selected communities supported by the foundation, shared a common desire: to build a stable future for themselves and their families.
Training and Transformation
Our journey began with comprehensive training sessions. Training in goat rearing and snail farming was delivered with in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience. With over three contacts of training, the beneficiaries learned the intricacies of animal husbandry, from breeding techniques and animal health management to basic business knowledge and marketing.
The goat-rearing training emphasized selecting the right breeds, proper feeding practices, and maintaining optimal living conditions to ensure healthy, productive animals. Meanwhile, the snail farming sessions covered everything from setting up the farm, and understanding the snails' habitat requirements, to harvesting and marketing the produce. These trainings were not just about imparting knowledge but instilling confidence and a sense of ownership in each participant.
From Learning to Livelihood
Armed with knowledge and enthusiasm, the beneficiaries were then provided with the necessary resources to kickstart their ventures. The participants received starter kits, including goats, snails, feed, and the necessary support. The foundation ensured continuous support, with regular follow-ups to address any challenges and celebrate milestones.
Feedback from participants
Mohammed, a beneficiary at Breman (Nyanoa) who set up a snail farm, spoke of his newfound independence: "Snail farming seemed daunting at first, but with the training and continuous support, I am building a viable venture to support myself and the family. This project has given me hope to expand this initial setup and help provide training to other beneficiaries.
John (a PWD) who showed interest in goat rearing shared his experience: "I was initially skeptical about rearing, but through the training and goat delivered to me, they are now thriving, and I'm even planning to expand”.
Impact and Beyond
The impact of this sustainable livelihood support extends beyond the individual beneficiaries. As these new agribusinesses flourish, they will create ripple effects in their communities. Moreover, the success of these ventures will inevitably inspire other beneficiaries to explore similar opportunities, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
GraceStation Foundation's commitment to empowering communities through sustainable livelihood projects is unwavering. This pilot project for these 15 beneficiaries is a testament to what can be achieved with the right support and opportunities.
In a world where challenges are plentiful, GraceStation Foundation stands as a beacon of hope, proving that with compassion, training, and support, we can cultivate resilience and transform lives. Our journey with these 15 beneficiaries is just the beginning. Together, we will continue to sow seeds of hope and nurture the dreams of countless others, one sustainable project at a time.
