I am Albert, a beneficiary of GraceStation foundation’s scholarship scheme. My educational journey right from the latter part of my basic education, all through to my undergraduate studies was funded by scholarship offers by diverse institutions, including GraceStation foundation. I lost my father at age eight (8) and since then my mother has had to take up the duty of a single parent. She worked as a janitor in a school and made very little profit to fend for my siblings and I.

My undergraduate studies at the University pf Ghana was particularly difficult, until I was introduced to the GraceStation foundation Scholarship Scheme by a friend in my sophomore year. I went through the application and screening processes, and I was awarded a partial scholarship which catered for the cost of my tuition.

The scholarship from the foundation also came with many gains which included being offered a two-month internship opportunity at the foundation’s head office where I served as an administrative assistant and an assistant to the finance manager. The most valuable experience I gained from this internship was the ability to work in a team and to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds. I was also able to gain a better understanding of the dynamics of working in a professional environment and the importance of teamwork. Again, I took part in the Knowledge Enhancing Skill Training Program that was organized by the foundation. These opportunities really improved my basic skills like communication, leadership, IT, organization and managerial skills.

All these experiences have better shaped me and prepared me for the corporate world. I graduated with a first-class honor in Bachelor of Arts Double Major- Economics and Mathematics and due to my excellent academic performance, I was offered a national service placement as a Teaching Assistant at the Mathematics department of the University of Ghana, Legon.

I believe in service to mankind and an equal opportunity for all to help fight social injustice, discrimination, and extreme poverty. My greatest ambition is to become an economist and a great leader of change in my community, Ghana, and the world at large.

I am grateful to GraceStation foundation for providing me with such a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and complete my tertiary education with skills that would last me a lifetime in my career.
