“Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We are strongest when we cheer each other on.” -Serena Williams

The theme for 2022’s International Woman’s Day was, #BreakTheBias: Gender equality for a sustainable tomorrow. Worldwide, this sought to create awareness and bridge the gender gap. To commemorate this day, GraceStation foundation on March 8, organized an IWD event, for twenty-six widows/single beneficiary mothers.

There were various sessions that characterized the event, and this included a pampering session for our women. A beauty stand was set up and the women had their faces made up and nails done. The women were also educated on cervical cancer and were encouraged to visit their local hospitals for regular screenings.

To break the bias and encourage our women to brave the odds and thrive in a male-dominated society, we had an inspirational guest speaker who shared her experience in business, challenges faced and how to overcome it by persevering.

The beneficiaries were grateful for the opportunity to learn from each other as they shared experiences in a question-and-answer session.

The event ended with the participants having lunch, networking, and taking photos striking the #BreakTheBias pose.

“Here is to strong women: May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”
