At GraceStation foundation, the general wellbeing of our beneficiaries is of utmost importance to us! In acknowledgement of October being a month to raise awareness on Breast cancer we hosted an event to mark it.
Breast cancer is currently the most common cancer globally, accounting for 12.5% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide and black women are most likely to die from breast cancer than women of any other racial or ethnic group (Breastcancer.org). Despite this, it is known that early detection of cancer gives a person a higher chance of surviving it.
In line with the theme ‘Early Detection Saves Lives,’ the foundation in collaboration with our partner organization – the Liver, Prostate and Kidney (LIPKID) Foundation, held a breast cancer sensitization and free screening exercise for beneficiaries. Thirty- two (32) beneficiaries from Nima, Bubuashie, Madina and Frafraha were educated on the probable causes of breast cancer and the measures that could be taken to reduce the risk of being diagnosed.
After the sensitization session, they were individually ushered to qualified health personnel from the LIPKID Foundation who physically examined their breasts to check for any abnormalities and further did ultrasound scan screenings on the women to check for any further abnormalities that could not have been detected from the physical examinations. Where there were any situations that needed medical attention, the doctor on site was available to advise accordingly.
The women were grateful for the opportunity to benefit from the free screenings and keenly look forward to the next health screening activity.
